In the ten years since our 2007 conference in Tanzania, the continent has experienced spectacular economic, demographic and creative growth, and made exciting progress toward its rightful place in the world. Yet many African nations are beset by challenges. And the stakes have never been higher. At TEDGlobal 2017, we’ll bring together an incredible group of speakers who can collectively help shape how this plays out. Dreamers and doers. Technologists and entrepreneurs. Business leaders and creatives. The event ten years ago felt like history in the making. The ideas and connections forged then have had untold impact. We invite anyone passionate about the future of Africa, and the future of the world, to come and be part of something special.

This event will examine the 17 SDGs in depth, with detailed perspectives from business, government, international agencies and NGOs. This is powered by the unprecedented opportunity to accelerate inclusive growth in Africa to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals. To fully realize the purpose of the SDGs, it is important to understand the integrated nature of the 17 SDGs. Therefore, the SDGs have been grouped according to the following categories: People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace & Partnership. Over the course of the next few months, we will be focusing on each of the 5 groups or the ‘5Ps’, while also exploring the interlinking relationship that PARTNERSHIPS have with each of the four other groups.

Richmond Memorial Convention Center, Richmond, CA
The event will feature over 100 speakers plus plenaries and workshops. Sept 9th includes a Holistic Social Investment and Reinvestment talk featuring Theo Ferguson and Stuart Valentine. The global movement for environmental justice and a livable climate has brought international attention to the value of soils as a sink for the carbon accumulated in the atmosphere due to irresponsible consumption of fossil fuels. Increasing soil organic matter is the only practical way to mitigate climate chaos. For several years, Soil Not Oil has worked with anti-fossil fuel activists and other stakeholders, helping them recognize that many factors contribute to harmful carbon emissions including soil depletion, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, industrial-agriculture, and any practices that threaten the health and function of soils. Additionally, leading scientists, farmers and soil advocates have defined soil carbon sequestration as a viable path to mitigate global warming. Many past attendees have been so inspired by the conference that they have shifted the focus of their work towards soils. Also as a direct result of the SNO conference, several environmental organizations implemented programs related to soils. The annual Soil Not Oil International Conference provides a unique bridge between the clean energy and the agro-ecology movements. We educate participants and provide them with the tools to become agents of change from any position, location, or income. The event will be live streamed as well.
